To determine the patient's heart rate and rhythm, an Electrocardiogram
(ECG or EKG) is utilized as a non-invasive cardiac test which records
the electrical activity of the heart. This test will assist the physician
to appropriately evaluate the patient's cardiac condition, by indicating
if a heart attack has occurred, if there is any part of the heart that has
been damaged, if there are any irregular heart beats or rhythm, or if
there is a decreased supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
